Xena-Update

Xena will undergo surgery next Wednesday to repair the prolapsed eyelid.

A headcone will likely be required afterwards, to minimize potential for scratching or damaging the eye. Some extra TLC will be required for sure!

Cherry Eye

Since the eye drops are doing little to treat Xena's eye; we're pretty certain our vet will opt to perform surgery. We will know more by Thursday, when Xena undergoes a re-check.

Our vet explained cherry eye occurs when the tear gland behind the third eyelid moves out of place. Surgery will relocate the gland behind the eyelid.
Cherry eye is known as a "collapsed gland" of this third eyelid.

Our vet will create a pocket for the gland & tuck it into the pocket. If Xena doesn't have the surgery, she will develop dry eye - which would require drops every day for the rest of her life. And we don't want that.

Tear Gland

Xena has inflammation in the right tear gland, so it was wise to visit our vet today. The issue is not the same as an inflamed third eyelid. Dr. Condon placed drops in the eye to freeze & examine it.

(Xena didn't mind this procedure at all; she was very accomodating.) Getting weighed was much more painful!!

Eye drops were prescribed, to be administered twice daily for the next 7-10 days & hopefully this will clear up the problem. If not, then surgery will be required (we hope this will not be the case).

Xena is snuggled up & sleeping soundly.

Going to the vet later this afternoon to get her eye checked. Will update this evening.

I Gots a Pink Eye!

My vet dr. says I have inflammation in my third eyelid; so Momma puts drops in twice a day!

My eye doesn't hurt & I don't mind having the drops put in. (much)

Home-Safe & Sound

Red sky in the morning - sailors take warning! We heeded that old warning & came home yesterday - nasty snow & rain is headed our way! We made the decision to return before the Nor'easter hits the Island.
