It's Been One of those Weeks!!

Schatzi spent most of the week in & out of the dreaded V.E.T. hospital! Firstly, she showed signs of severe lethargy; then things started to go downhill...as her left eye started to swell & weep. On Tuesday she underwent prelimary blood & urine tests. Early indications led us to believe a serious health issue was looming....especially when a large lump appeared within 24 hours.

Today, x-rays & a biopsy was performed on that nasty lump...which proved to be a swollen lymph gland! An anti-inflammatory & pain meds have been administered & prescribed for the weekend & a re-check will be done on Monday.
Mama, Dad and our hooman sister were extremely relieved that the prelimiary tests proved wrong....as cancer was being investigated. Early indicators showed perhaps this was a concern.

Thank dawg that is not the case & while Schatzi appreciated the hospitality at the 5 star V.E.T. accomodations, she is very happy to be home & snuggled tightly beside her Dad!

And Mama is thinking she has a few more gray hairs to cover!

Whoopee!!! Today is Oskar's 10th Birthday!!!



He has a dachshund cookie all his very own!

And this special guy, is Nathan!! He is my new BFF....well, more like my hooman sister's BF....but he is A-OK in my books!! Specially, when he brings me a birthday prezzie!!



A football squeakie all my very own!! And, boy....can I make it squeak!!



Thanks a bunch Nathan, for my new toy!! I'll try not to bark at you so much...but a guy has to protect his turf, ya know how it is.

Mama Has a Cold

And sore throat....so we've been busy keeping her warm & snuggly.

Relatives...You Can't Pick Em!

Mama and our hooman sister, took a road trip today to transport Bailie, a springer spaniel in foster care & visit our other hooman sister & family...we thought we would share pictures of our four legged relatives.

Firstly, this is Bailie....she is a pawsome girl...who needs a quiet, retirement home. Isn't she beautiful? She doesn't like having her picture taken though.




Introducing Diego....he's a big boy, but sweet as can be!

And last, but not least.....Tara...the resident kitty!

Out & About

We loaded up the kritterkins in the truck & drove into the heart of the city for a walk-about! Tonight was the Santa Claus Parade, but it was too noisy, crowded & cold for us to stay and watch.

Oskar is Dad's trusty co-pilot!



Schatzi is second-in-command...ever on the look-out for an elusive kitty.....



Xena is in charge of having a nap on the way!



And we're off! We parked behind the Superstore & walked around the block!
It was really busy, as people were lining up to watch the parade!





Oskar's got cold, so he snuggled inside Dad's jacket!



Schatzi's bum got so cold, we decided to herd everyone home & snuggle by the fire.



Lots of people were enjoying music and floats!

The Story of Us!!

It's hard to believe it's been over 8 years since our hoomans have had dachshunds rule their lives! How on earth did they ever muddle thru life without us? Who would get them up at 5:00 a.m. every day? Who alerted them when it was time for snacks? Who kept the home safe from intruders? We cannot imagine their lives without us...it must'a been pretty darn boring!

Ok...so now about us! Even though our adoption stories are blogged about here, many posts back...it's always good to remind the hoomans how special & important we really are...so here we go!

Schatzi...well, let's just say...she's in the witness protection program & leave it at that! She came to us stinky, dirty & full of ear mites...a far cry from the diva princess she has turned into! A little, forlorned 4 mth old puppy with a skip in her gate & peed if you even spoke to her. But she is Mama's heart & soul...they are one..where Mama ends...Schatzi begins...they are attached at the hip. Schatzi is now 8 years old, but will always be Mama's baby!

Oskar..oh Lord...there is a book in the making about our precious pie-bald! Oskar came to run this house, adopted through Almost Home Dachshund Rescue, when he was two years old. His previous owner, rather than deal with his fear,aggression, guarding issues, decided it was best to take him to a vet and have him murdered. Thank dawg the vet refused to do it & placed a call to rescue...and within a few weeks Oskar made the long trek from NH to Maine...where he lept into the waiting arms of Mama & Dad. (hehehehe-if they only knew what awaited them when Oskar started to bare his teeth & bite everyone!) But that is all water under the bridge now & he has mellowed out.....he soon celebrates birthday #10 in December! He is Dad's bestest boy!!

And then there were three...Xena came into Canadian Dachshund Rescue with her Mom...their breeder took them back from their buyer & contacted rescue to take them in. Xena was 8 & her Mom was 10 years old at that time. From June til October they lived in a kennel outdoors!!! Can you believe that? Since the cold weather was coming, they needed a safe place to go...so CDR took them in & they were placed in foster care. Since CDR was informed they were a bonded pair, they were kept together...until it was discovered they truly weren't bonded. Xena's Mom went to a wonderful new home in Nova Scotia Xena came to "stay" with us until she was adopted.
Well, you see how well that worked out....she wormed her way into Mama's heart & within a few short weeks, she was adopted and here to stay.
Xena will be 13 years old in May & is the "Grande Dame" of the house!

This is our friend & she is a volunteer for Tiny Paws Dog Rescue along with our Mom. Did you find all the wieners? There is Joy, she is the black & tan gal, Benny, the handsome red smooth, Foster, the gorgeous red long-hair & Blue (no explanation needed) and Kiera the darling dapple!

Blue & Kiera are a bonded pair, available for adoption. But for right now, they are in wonderful, experienced dachshie care!!
