Dental Update!

Our little pie-bald had two extractions; but is currently snuggly warm in recovery; with discharge later today.

Our vet assures us this is peridontal disease - above the gum line. Tartar was minimal, so keeping up with brushing regularly is a must. We will re-visit in 6 months.

A soft supper is in order, with the odd snuggle & kiss tossed in for good measure!

Dachshunds are not only prone to back issues, but peridontal disease.

We greatly appreciate the well wishes & rayz!

I will provide for their every need even if it means I must give up my own bed, chair, couch and, yes, food. I am a Dachsaholic. I will surround myself with things that remind me of the ones I serve. Greyhound Rescue of Atlantic Canada Doggie Expo!

Greyhound Rescue of Atlantic Canada sponsors a Doggie Expo annually, at the Halifax Forum, in Halifax Forum. It is a wonderful afternoon for owners and their pets to socialize, shop & partake in the various flyball, agility, games, & events!
As well, rescue organizations from around the east coast host awareness & fundraising booths - a great chance to learn about their work! Here are a few of my favourite booths!

Out & About!

I had the opportunity on the weekend to attend a couple of events in Nova Scotia(sans the kritterkins). The Halifax Kennel Club Dog Show was the first event (more on the second event - Greyhound Pets of Atlantic Canada Doggie Expo pics to come).



This little cutie is "Cookie" - her tee-shirt has "Cookie Monster" printed on the back!

Under the Weather

It seems our Mommy is under the weather, suffering a nasty cold! So, you know we are taking really good care of her, right now - we are sharing our spot in the sun with her!

Hopefully, Mommy will feel better soon!

How to Photograph Your Dachshund!!

1. Remove film from box & load camera

2. Remove film box from your dachshund's mouth & throw in trash

3. Remove your dachshund from trash and brush coffee grounds from muzzle

4. Choose a suitable background for photo

5. Mount camera on tripod and focus

6. Find your dachshund & take dirty sock from mouth

7. Place your dachshund in pre-focused spot and return to camera

8. Forget about spot and crawl after your dachshund on your knees

9. Focus with one hand & fend off your dachshund with other hand

10. Get tissue & clean nose prints from lens

11. Take flash cube from your dachshund's mouth & throw in trash

12. Put cat outside & swab peroxide on the scratch on your dachshund's nose

13. Put magazines back on coffee table

14. Try to get your dachshund's attention by squeaking toy over your head.

15. Replace your glasses and check camera for damage

16. Jump up in time to scoot your dachshund up & say, "No, outside! No, outside!"

17. Call spouse to clean up mess

18. Fix a drink

19. Sit back in lazyboy with drink & resolve to teach your dachshund to
"sit" and "stay" ............... first thing tomorrow!

Basic Rules for Being a Good Dachshund

Newspapers: If you have to go to the bathroom while playing in the front yard, always use the newspaper - it's placed in the driveway every morning for that purpose.

Visitors: Quickly determine which guest is afraid of dogs. Charge across the room, barking loudly and leap playfully on this person. If the human falls down on the floor and starts crying, lick its face and growl gently to show your concern.

Barking: Because you are a dog, you are expected to bark. So bark--a lot. Your owners will be very happy to hear you protecting their house. Especially late at night while they are sleeping safely in their beds. There is no more secure feeling for a human than to keep waking up in the middle of the night and hearing your protective bark, bark, bark...

Licking: Always take a big drink from your water dish immediately before licking your human. Humans prefer clean tongues.

Holes: Rather than digging a big hole in the middle of the yard and upsetting your human, dig a lot of smaller holes all over the yard so they won't notice. If you arrange a little pile of dirt on one side of each hole, maybe they'll think it's gophers. There are never enough holes in the ground. Strive daily to do your part to help correct this problem.

Doors: The area directly in front of a door is always reserved for dachshunds to sleep.

The Art of Sniffing: Humans like to be sniffed. Everywhere. It is your duty to accommodate them.

Dining Etiquette: Always sit under the table at dinner, especially when there are guests, so you can clean up any food that falls on the floor. It's also a good time to practice your sniffing.

Housebreaking: Housebreaking is very important to humans, so break as much of the house as possible.

Going for Walks: Rules of the road: When out for a walk with your master or mistress, never potty on your own lawn.

Couches: It is perfectly permissible to lie on the new couch.

Playing: If you lose your footing while chasing a squirrel or mouse, use the flower bed to absorb your fall so you don't injure yourself.

Chasing Cats: When chasing cats, make sure you never--quite--catch them. It spoils all the fun.

Chewing: Make a contribution to the fashion industry. ..... Eat a shoe.

This About Sums it Up!

Nothing new to report! It's winter - there is snow! Not much to do; the kritters go out - do their thing - come back in - and flop in front of the fire! That about sums up their existance, these days! They hate the cold-cringe & cry if you even think of taking them out for a walk-too much salt on the ground-it hurts their paws! And no self-respecting dachshund would be caught dead wearing booties! (or so they tell me).



I bet Xena is dreaming about warm, sunny days spent chillaxing on the deck! And to add insult to injury - an ice-storm is predicted for the beginning of the week!
