Post Christmas

We hope everyone had a joyous & relaxing Christmas...we had a paw some time. Christmas Eve the humans enjoyed a full fledged turkey dinner with all the fix in's...Benson & his paw-rents joined in the delicious meal. Then friends popped in for a visit & "refreshments".

We opened our prezzies on Christmas Day...with Benson & family...and we want to share one very special gift Liesel's breeder sent to us...it's a wonderful book full of pictures of Liesel, her Mom & Dad and four sister puppies...even pics of them with their new families! A book we will cherish fur-ever!!

On the cover is her Mom, Sarotti & her litter mates..



Mama & Dad went to see the new Hobbit movie Christmas night...which gave the kritter kins a chance to catch up on some much needed sleep!

A Very Merry Christmas To All!!

It's hard to imagine when we started this blog in 2008.... we would still be going strong in 2014! And my thanks & appreciation go to you...our readers...our friends, our family & fellow bloggers. You've remained strong & steadfast..rejoicing in our good times and lending much needed support, prayers and compassion during our grief and sorrowful times.

It is our wish for you and your family a very Merry Christmas & much love and happiness in 2015!

A Willing Student....

We enjoyed our first class of Puppy Kindergarden..and not that we are ones to brag...but Liesel did awesome....we were told how great we did! She is a quick learner..and a willing participant.

She is very timid & shy of new people and will bark at other dogs..but that will come in time. She already has mastered "Watch"...when she makes direct eye contact with me (since one person trains with the dog)..and can already hold eye contact for a count of 3 or 4...then she hears a click...and knows a treat is coming.

We practice at least 3-4 times daily...short sessions...

The instructors were pretty smitten with her & have fallen in love with her name too!

Liesel's First Day of School!!

Today....Liesel goes to school...we are all set with treat pouch & clickers. Class sizes are small....(max of four)...it should be fun! We have some work to do..as with any puppy..we need to work on some areas...such as:

#1 - Barking & lunging at people and/or other dogs especially when out walking..
#2 - Puppy nipping at hands & feet..

These are not huge issues...but we want to "nip" them in the bud..after 4 weeks of puppy K...we begin Basic Obedience.

In Liesel's defence..she has learned so much in less than three weeks since she arrived..

#1 - She knows her name...and comes running when called (treat reward optional...but that is the method)
#2 - She has learned to walk on harness & leash...like walking a sheep..she is everywhere...but still doing well...
#3 - And this is a big one...she is not quite as fearful of cars & large trucks...but that is a work in progress.
#4 - She loves the car & curls up in her seat & snoozes..

Potty training...is going well...for a doxie...schedule & repetition is key..weather permitting..we walk a couple of times a day...rain is simply not tolerated...

Now....who is up for a good old fashioned tug of war??

Rain, Rain & More Rain....

Everyone knows dachshunds usually hate the rain....and Liesel is no exception to that rule. We've been having torrential rain here for the last 24 hours...so getting her to do her busy-ness outside has been a challenge...

This was hubby out in the swampy back yard this morning...yep...the umbrella over her...

Yeah....I Think Oskar Likes Her...

We are waiting to hear the results of Oskar's blood & urine tests done yesterday & we are increasing his IBS medication from one per day to two per day.

UPDATE* - The test results are in & Oskar will remain on the kidney medication..and the blood anlysis range was ok (since Osk is administered Metacam regularly for his back...testing his liver function is important). So...all is good & we will continue to retest every 6 months.

Dawgie Update.....

Oskar has a vet appointment tomorrow...Mama spoke with Dr. Condon & advised that Oskar's IBS is flaring up about once a week...so we need to get that under control...the medication no longer seems to be helping & it's also time for urine testing to check his kidney function. Keeping our paws crossed that we get our boy feeling better.

Liesel & Mama did a little retail therapy..as any sweaters we have are too big...these pretty pink ones fit perfectly. We will be needing a treat pouch for Puppy Kindergarden next month, so we picked that up & a tag with Liesel inscribed on it & a big, nubbly Nylabone to chew on. And roasted marrow bones are a favourite item for chewing...as are Dad's slippers.



And the new car seat arrived...since Benson grew out of his smaller car seat, Mama gave him Schatzi's seat. When Liesel arrived...a new car was ordered & it arrived yesterday! Dad just needs to hook it up in the back seat...and we're good to go!!

I Won Him Over - He Likes Me!!

I knew Oskar liked me... we had our first play this morning...(he was just playin' hard to get)...





We had the bestest time...








And...I had a playdate with Benson the other night....the first 10 minutes or so we spent barking & getting to know one another....then the zoomies & fun began...



Now...I'm going to have a little *yawn* snooze..it's a yucky snowy & wet day here...the kind of day doxies don't appreciate being forced to "go" outside in...

So Much To Do.....

Leaves a wire pup feeling v-e-r-y sleepy....



Yesterday was a big day...I got to meet Dr. Condon & all the paw-some people at my vet clinic...they even took my picture to put on their FB page...aw shucks...so much adoration....but anyhow...I am in perfect health...my eyes are good, my ears are squeaky clean, my skin is grrrreat & all my 2,000 other body parts...are pur-fect! I had some good tasting stuff while I was there...for protection against kennel cough..since...can you stand any more excitement?

I start Puppy Kindergarden in December...yep...I'm going to school! Not that Oskar isn't teaching me the fine art of barking & begging for food...I think they want to teach me "good stuff"! They use a thing called a clicker...and treats...hey, if treats are involved....count me in!!

And, if all this wasn't pawsitively exciting enuf...I had a bath! Yep, I did...and I smell like a real princess now! I really didn't mind it & I got to roll & roll in the towels afterward. In the future, I will be going to a groomer...Mama & I are having a consult & meet & greet with her in a couple of weeks...just so she knows how special I am & I need to be kept all princess-like!

Now...don't think we are going to rename this blog the "All About Liesel" blog (although...wouldn't that be cool?)..cause we still have my new brother to cope share with! He's still a grumbly-growly guy..but sometimes...I tease him...he just wants to show me who is boss...well...since he is older wiser...I let him think that he is the boss!

This evening...we are going to Mama's grand puppy's house...Benson is a whole year old...I'm looking forward to having someone closer to my own age to play with! If we're not too lightening fast...Mama hopes to get some pictures!

Well...it's time for my afternoon nap...catch up with you all later!!

My First Night Home....

Mama is happy to report..I had a great night..no problems at all!! I slept soundly in my crate, til about 4:00 am, then Mama decided to take me out for a potty break.

Not to brag or nuthin'...(and we don't want to jinx anything)...but I've done all my busy-ness....outside! Yep...I'm that good! And cute...did I mention cute? I luv squeaky toys...and I don't even try to rip their guts out!! I love to chase them when they get tossed down the hallway.



Oskar & I are getting "acquainted"...see...he's been the Boss...the Head Cheese...for a very long time time now...and he didn't realize...I'm a wire girl...I take no guff from anyone...so when he barks at me...I barks right back! We're gonna get along just fine...



It's hard to get pictures of me..cause I'm such a busy girl...I've had my breakfast, gone for a short walk (I was a country gal..so the city noise traffic scares me a bit). I came from a wonderful registered breeder in Ontario...I was super good on the plane...and Mama & Dad picked me up at the airport in Nova Scotia. I know my Ontario family misses me bunches & bunches...but they know I am in the bestest home ever..here in PEI!!

I'm having a before lunch nap.

Introducing...........

Liesel!! (my Mama named me that).. I'm a wild boar wire-hair dachshund...I was born July 29, 2014....so I am almost 4 months old!!

Looking all gorgeous on my way home in the car....after an early...(did I say early?) morning flight...



Here I am...out for my first official "walk"....need some training on the leash....and scared of the cars when they go by...but did really well overall



There are going to be some "growing pains"...as expected....I'm a puppy...Oskar is a senior....but we will sort it out. And...I bark.....mostly for him to play with me .....then he barks...and we all have a barking good time!!

Phew! I'm really tired (a girl needs her beauty rest)...snuggling with my Mama & having sweet dreams!!!
