A Tale of A Tail....

Can you see where the fur has gone off my tail? I don't know where it went...it was there the last time I checked!

Dr. Condon said it wasn't anything too serious & prescribed a cortisteriod cream.

Hmmm...the tale of the missing tail fur...sounds like a good name for a book! Anybody heard of a nekkid tail condition?

The Importance of a Pet First Aid Kit

Having the proper items to care for Oskar's surgery incision made me thankful I took a pet first aid course &  prompted me to purchase a pet first aid kit.

I purchased our kit at Wal Mart, but you could do your own in a basket or any container.  We also added a tube of antibiotic cream (Polysporin).  An important reminder........ replenish the kit, as required.

Now, all that being said....ask me if we have a "human| first aid kit?  Guess we know who are higher on the food chain in our house!   :)

New Bandage - And a Loose Turd!!

We were at Dr. Condon's office bright & early this morning, for a check of Osk's incision & fresh bandage.  Standing at the desk, with Oskar under my arm...a turd suddenly appeared on the floor!
Yep...I think he was shaking so hard...he shook a turd out!!  And it gets better...as I step to move...yep...I stepped in it!  Poor Osk....he really gets scared at the vet's.   I swear I heard him snicker....

His bandage was removed & Dr. Condon wanted to keep it off, as the air is good for it...but we are going to remove it tomorrow instead.  We will have to keep a watchful eye, to make certain Osk doesn't lick or chew on his paw.  At night, I think we will bandage it & keep it open during the day.

He is doing really well...sleeping most of today...which is good...he needs to recuperate.

Little Bit More Invasive

Our patient is home...ate supper, (he was starving...)  he slurped a long, cold drink & Dad administered  a dose of  pain medication & now he is sleeping off and on.  Once the medication kicks in, he should rest comfortably. The surgery was quite a bit more invasive than first thought, as the tumor (s) were wrapped around bone, tendon and artery...but what could be removed was.

Friday morning, we return to change his bandage.  Results on the mass will be back the first of next week.

Out of Surgery

Oskar is out of surgery & resting comfortably at the animal hospital.  The vet tech said he was the first surgery done & everything went well.

We can pick him up late this afternoon...will update when we have spoken to Dr. Condon & have Oskar home.

Thank you everyone, for your pawers & pawsitive get well wishes.

Oskar - Surgery

We noticed a lump on Oskar's right front leg, so we headed to see Dr. Condon yesterday. Poor Osk...he was poked with needles...and he was such a brave boy. The fluid was drained from the lump, but on the underside of his leg is where the growth is located. And it needs to be removed.

His blood work was done while he was there, Dr. Condon called this morning to say the results were fine..and we are a go for surgery next Wednesday morning.

I figured no one would want to see pictures of a tumor...and besides...taking a picture would disturb his afternoon nap!

Sad Good-Bye to Kara

Kara was my first foster doxie...nearly 11 years ago. Her Dad called to inform me she suffered a stroke a few days ago & a recovery was not expected. The heart wrenching decision was made to let her go... she was much loved & will truly be missed. Kara was 16 years old.

Rest in heaven, my love...please find our Xena to snuggle with.

Impromptu Vet Visit

I think I have mentioned before, we are noticing more and more that Schatzi's eye sight is failing. Just little things like not being on a piece of cheese before it hits the floor, but having to "sniff" it out or a piece of kibble needs to be placed directly under her nose for her to find it.

Since her annual check up isn't until January 2014, I felt it best to have Dr. Condon check her eyes. He did 2 or 3 little checks, including a tear test, glaucoma test & checked for cataracts. She does have small cataracts forming, but nothing that needs to be treated, but we will have check ups at 6 month intervals.

Of course, being the drama queen she is...getting her pawdicure done...one would think they were torturing her! Worst part of the visit for her...that & getting weighed! To our delight, she is down in her weight...all those evening walks...are paying off!

For now, we will continue to be consistent with where things (water bowl, beds, etc.) are kept & have gates up at stair openings.

Hope everyone is having a pawsome summer!!!
